Centered between Houston and Galveston island along I-45 through 9 cities and two counties, the Clear Lake TX Area was colonized in 1825 by Stephen F. Austin and became a thriving agricultural area in the 1920s, before becoming centered around the NASA/Johnson Space Center (JSC) in the 1960s.  The cities that make up the Clear Lake TX and Houston Bay Area were built to support the aerospace industry and its administrators, engineers, astronauts, and support staff.  Related businesses have also moved to the area to create one of the highest concentrations of aerospace businesses and expertise in the nation (including a growing biotechnology employing nearly 3,000 growing from the astronaut and station programs).
